P.S. Bee venom pharmaceuticals are widely used,[1] including in apipharmacopuncture,[2] externally and invasively.[3] Regulators (including the FDA[4]) registers bee venom. However, the presence of a mixture of peptides and additional components in the natural poison can give side effects and allergic effects. Pure melittin, as the main therapeutic antimicrobial peptide of bee venom, has potential in medical and cosmetic use[5]

In the market (according to our information), only synthetic melittin is offered with a comparable individual protein content, purity [6] and quality. Independent analysis of some Chinese samples showed that they do not meet the stated characteristics.
On trade portals, under the term “melittin”, they usually offer dried bee venom, purified from foreign admixtures, with undivided protein components and a melittin content of 40-50%. 11,12
